What we believe
We believe in God. He is three persons, but one God. He is both unknowable and knowable. God--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit--is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. God wants us to know Him and has revealed Himself in various ways including creation, placing His image within us and in His acts in history. The ultimate revelation of God is through Jesus Christ.
We believe in the pre-existence of Christ and His incarnation on the earth. Christ's nature is human and divine. The characteristics of Jesus' divinity are the very characteristics of God. We believe in the resurrection and ascension of Jesus and that He will come back to earth again to consummate history.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is God. The Holy Spirit was active in the old covenant and came into the world in a new way on the day of Pentecost. At the time when Christ is received, the Holy Spirit comes in and lives in a person to give spiritual rebirth. The Holy Spirit gives the followers of Christ the "unity of the Spirit” and enables believers to grow spiritually.
We believe God created us to have fellowship with Him but we have defied God by selfishly going our own way. As a result, we need God's saving grace to end our alienation from Him. Salvation comes only through God's saving grace and not through human effort. We must receive God’s grace personally by repentance and faith.
We believe God has created us as free moral agents. Every individual is accountable to God for choices made. Since believers were free to make the decision to accept Christ as Savior and Lord, they are not less free at any time to turn away from God and be lost. God provides power for living a victorious Christian life.
We believe Christ has given the church three divine ordinances.
· Baptism - The ordinance of baptism as a celebration of our new life in Christ. We practice "believer's baptism." The biblical form of baptism is by immersion.
· Feet washing - The service of feet washing reminds us of our calling to be servants. This ordinance is an expression of our love for one another.
· The Lord's Supper - The Lord's Supper is a celebration of our redemption. This ordinance is intended to remind us of Christ's atoning death and it is a proclamation of hope. The Lord's Supper is open to all Christians.
We believe in the presentation of children for the Lord's blessing. They are a gift of God. We ought to follow Jesus’ example in ministering to children.
We believe Christians should be servants in their relationships with God and others. Christians have a primary obligation to be salt and light and a witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ.
We believe in the Second Coming and ultimate victory of Jesus Christ. God will bring history to its proper close in His way and in His time.
